There are many providers of legal help for personal injury. They present themselves as personal injury lawyers, personal injury experts, personal injury specialists or personal injury lawyers. The range is so vast that the person in need of legal help cannot see the wood for the trees. There seem to be no differences, but there are and the differences are huge.

LSA Personal injury lawyer protected title

The title of LSA Personal Injury Lawyer is a protected title, which may not be held by all lawyers. There are about 14,000 lawyers in the Netherlands. Only the more than 300 lawyers who meet the strict quality requirements of the LSA Association may call themselves LSA Letselschade Advocaat.

Anyone, including those without any special training or experience, may call themselves personal injury lawyers, personal injury experts or even personal injury specialists. This while the LSA Personal Injury Lawyer:

  • must have completed a university degree in law
  • Must have practised as a lawyer for at least 5 years
  • must then take the one-year Postgraduate Specialisation Course in Personal Injury at the Grotius Academy and pass examinations
  • must demonstrably spend at least 500 hours per year on personal injury cases
  • take or continue to take continuing education courses in the field of personal injury law
  • annually make a Quality Declaration before the board of the LSA Association
  • must participate in audits organised by the LSA Association and conducted by independent third parties
  • should participate in the LSA's peer review meetings

Two of our lawyers are members of the Personal Injury Lawyers Association (LSA). They are also members of the Association of Lawyers for Victims of Personal Injury (ASP) and the Working Group of Lawyers for Doctors (WAA). Two of our lawyers are members of the Netherlands Employment Lawyers Association (VAAN). Lawyers of the VAAN are subject to similar quality requirements in the field of employment law as the LSA. In short, our lawyers are true specialists.
