Violence or intimidation

The number of people facing violence and harassment at work has risen sharply in recent years. Especially in companies in the service sector and government, employees face aggressive or intimidating behaviour from customers or visitors. Violence and intimidation can cause functioning problems, health complaints and absenteeism.

A 'modern' illness is Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that can occur after (an accumulation of) serious traumatic event(s). Not for nothing does PTSD appear as occupational disease occur among emergency service personnel such as police, fire and ambulance personnel, public sector personnel such as front desk or security staff and in the healthcare sector, among others.

PTSD leads to symptoms such as re-experiencing (parts of) the trauma, avoidance of trauma-related people or situations and increased irritability, difficulty concentrating, anger outbursts and skittishness.

Post-traumatic stress disorder also occurs quite often as a result of a traumatic accident. This accident then leads not only to physical injury but also to serious psychological symptoms and limitations. In such a situation, PTSD often causes more health damage than the physical injury. Often enough, PTSD has a long-term period of impairment of your ability to work, and thus disability, resulting in negative financial consequences.
